Welcome to the Stream~Miler

 A Cardomain Group                                                                                           LedZeppelin, Owner

This group is dedicated to a new type of Automotive performance.

A Place where Auto Enthusiasts can research and network with each other new and exciting ways

to conserve the fuel.  Consider this your very own think tank!

Gas Prices putting a Squeeze on Your Passion?

Pain at the Pump is starting to affect us all.  It does not matter what you drive, the cost of fuel is making even the smallest vehicle costlier to operate.  Older cars and big SUV's are commanding Titanic sized chunks of household budgets.  People across the United States have even considered revising Food and Utility line items in thier budgets to pay for thier thirsty rides!

 Is the END in Site?

Of course it is!  The end is coming just like the religious zealots at the airports have been saying for years...However thats not the end worth mentioning here.  The end of soaring gas prices will suffer the indignity of capping out at a price no one will ever pay.  Oil companies lose.  The problem is a dwindling supply of decaying dinosaurs.

So where does that put us with our fancy Hotrods, and Tuner cars?  What about the giant SUV's, Hummers and such?  Got a beautiful 60's era DONK rollin on 40s'?  Scrapin in a 50's era sedan? What about those fancy Chryslers with the bling factor at 12?  What about you little guys sportin' in the tiny Mod Squad Micro Machines?

What if there was a way to be competitive on a different level?

Street racing aside, the competition of the Auto culture has long been held that cubic inches meant speed.  The more Cu.In, the more speed there was.  In the last 20 years, the focus has been largly on the smaller 4 and 6 cylinder engines in the econo car set.  Commonly refered to as RacerBoys, these little cars sqirt down the road far quicker than manufacturerers had originally intended.  This level of performance has been achieved by using aftermarket parts intended to make the cars breath easier, thus putting power to the road in a more formidible fashion.

What if by using more restraint, an operator could use those same componets to conserve fuel and achieve better EPA gas mileage estimates?

What if a Driver simply used more restraint?

HYPER~Miling

You have all seen them.  Dare we say some of you are them...You know, those impossible slow pokes that seem to hold up traffic for miles?

They used to be little gray haired folks that were days away from losing thier licence in the golden days of thier lives.  Perhaps they knew something we were losing as we tore around them in disgust flipping the bird as we went.  They were the Nation's first Hyper-Milers. Easing on to hiways, and feathering the throttle from stoplights.  Easing the old Country Squire up to speed, and holding back from edging beyond the speed limit.  When it was all said and done, we stood dejectedly at the pump while they rolled by with out so much as a wave.  (they were still a bit peeved at our one finger wave I suspect...)  The point is here that restraint on the throttle goes a long way towards conserving the gas in the tank.

So this is the proposal.  Set about learning to drive your particular car with a bit more restraint.  Ease up to speed, and hold steady.  Don't become impatiant with the traffic around you.  After all you just dumped your colledge tuition on that fancy entertainment system in your whip...now is the time to enjoy it.

Focus on the traffic pattern around you.  Watch for changes ahead that will affect your driving and begin to alter your speed accordingly well ahead of where you would normally.

These are the basic foundations of HYPER-Miling.  Throughout this club site, there will be more detailed information on this driving practice for you to sift through.  Join the forum and offer ideas of your own.

Feel free to brag about the kind of milage you are getting with your car, truck or SUV.  See how much over the EPA estimates (or how close) you can get.  Network and resource with other club members to come up with new ideas on how to increase your mileage.

So you own a huge tricked out mobile that originally only achieved 8 MPG.  Doesn't matter.  Can you change your habits to maybe achieve 10?  12?  Are there aftermarket mods that may help you with this?  Ask a member, or research on your own and bring back your results!

The idea here is not to retrict anyone from enjoying the car culture.  The idea here is to find ways to continue to enjoy our rides, and take some of the sting away at the pump.  We can still have the fastest car on the block.  But we get to perhaps add some impressive mileage data to our bragging rights sheet.

Perhaps the right combination of Stream~Miler members will congregate to create a new alternative power source that will replace fossil fuel technology altogether...

At the very least, we will have a whole new way to compete with our cars on a completely different level.

  What do The Pros say?

This section is not really about the pros.  Professional drivers with trophies on shelves and spotless race garages.  This is about what Motor Vehicle Departments, and Auto repair and Maintenence Shops say about fuel managment.  Most of the information will be recurring from one source to another.  Because of this, the information will be listed, and sources aknowledged at the bottom with links to individual sites.

Location Specifics

The reason for this club is to share ideas for mostly American Drivers.  This is not in any way restricting membership to Americans only.  However, We here in the Continental United States are having the most difficulty dealing with the rising cost of fuel.  You folks in Europe have had high costs of fuel for years, and presumably have aclimated well to your situation.  In this manner, I hope you may offer your sensibilities so that we may have some reference in adapting to our situation.

Even so, the information gathered here will be location specific.  Each State of the Union has thier own mandates that dictate proper operation of a motor vehicle to achieve the best fuel management.  Likewise, Automotive maintence shops have thier lists as well.  Again, the information is pretty much the same.  It may not however have reference to those living in other countries.

MemberShip Requirements

You should own a car. Or a truck...SUV...Three wheeled Trike?

You should own a vehicle that sports three or more road going tires, carries two or more people, and requires authorization from a Motor Vehicle agency of some type in order to be operated on public thoroughfares, and motorways.
